Matt's Bio:

As both a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP-US) with public and early-stage company experience, Matt Stamper brings a broad, multi-disciplinary understanding to cybersecurity best practices to his clients. His diverse domain knowledge spans IT service management (ITSM), cybersecurity, cloud services, control design and assessment (Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA-HITECH), privacy (GDPR), governance, enterprise risk and IT management (ERM/ITRM), sales management & individual revenue contribution, new product & service development as well as international experience in both Latin America and China. Matt excels at conveying complex cybersecurity and IT concepts to boards of directors, executive management, as well as professional service providers. His executive-level experience with managed services, cybersecurity, data centers, networks services, and ITSM provides a unique perspective on the fast-changing world of enterprise IT, IoT, and cloud services. Matt is also the co-author of the CISO Desk Reference Guide written with Gary Hayslip and Bill Bonney.

He currently serves as a member of the board of directors for the San Diego chapter of ISACA and co-chair of the Telecommunications Sector for the San Diego chapter of InfraGard, a partnership between the FBI and the private sector. He is also on the Board of Advisors for the San Diego Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE) as well as a member of the CISO Round Table, and a member of the California Governor’s Cybersecurity Task Force. He is a past instructor on Cloud Security and Governance for UC San Diego’s Extension Program and presents on a number of cybersecurity, cloud, and governance topics to audiences in both the US and Latin America.

Matt is a Research Director in Gartner’s Security and Risk Management practice. As a Research Director, Matt’s responsibilities include authoring research on security topics, presenting at national and international conferences, as well as speaking with over 600 CIOs, CISOs, and other senior executives per year on security topics. Before joining Gartner, Matt served on the Board of Directors and was the Vice President of Managed and Professional Services at KIO Networks US (formerly redIT). There he served as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for US operations. As CISO, he liaised with other security practitioners to share threat intelligence and cybersecurity best practices. Matt oversaw the design and development of the company’s cloud–based managed services and security solutions including the implementation of KIO Networks’ hybrid cloud service capabilities with public cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS). During his tenure with KIO Networks, the company's US revenues more than doubled. He was also responsible for the IT control design used for the company's SSAE 16 SOC 1 and SOC 2 audits (formerly SAS 70). Under Matt’s guidance, KIO Networks had four consecutive years with zero audit exceptions.

Prior to joining KIO Networks, Matt served as Vice President of Development for CFO Strategies, leading the development of the company’s IT governance software for Sarbanes–Oxley compliance and enterprise risk-management. As part of his work with CFO Strategies, he provided advisory services to public companies supporting both domestic and international engagements including projects in China. Matt has also worked in the managed-services industry helping firms design highly-available and highly-resilient application architectures. He previously was a District Manager with VeriCenter (now Sungard Availability Services); the Western Region Solutions Manager for AT&T’s Enterprise Hosting Division; Vice President of Business Development for Front Porch, Inc.; and an International Account Executive for AT&T’s Global Services Division.

Matt received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at San Diego, where he graduated Cum Laude and with Honors and Distinction in Political Science. His graduate studies include a Master of Arts in Pacific International Affairs from the University of California at San Diego and a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications sponsored by AT&T. He is fluent in Spanish and has worked in executive roles in Latin America.
