Welcome to the San Diego Chapter of IMA
It’s September already and the dedicated volunteers on our chapter board have been hard at work planning a variety of programs and events for the year. We recently had our first in-person board meeting over lunch at Stone in Liberty Station. Regular board meetings are on the second Thursday of each month via Zoom. All chapter members are welcome to attend – just email us for the link.
For our first CPE event of the new Fiscal Year, C-BIZ Chief Investment Officer for Advisory Services Anna Rathbunpresented “The Domino Effect and Global Economic Implications” on Wednesday, September 20th. Thanks to CBIZ for sponsoring the event and especially Gregg Landers, Managing Director, CAAS / Consulting / SOC for helping pull it together. In October we are planning a networking happy hour. Final details will be posted soon on our events page. The Controllers Council will resume with a presentation on Ethics and Fraud Prevention on November 13th. This will be a hybrid in-person and online event at CBIZ.
Plans are underway for an IMA Student Night at SDSU on February 22nd featuring a panel of accounting and finance professionals from industry describing career opportunities in management accounting, and the importance of certifications such as the CMA in career management.
I would especially like to thank two of our board volunteers for their contributions this month. First, Andrew Murphy, VP Member Engagement, for taking the lead on restarting the Controllers Council and our upcoming networking events. Second, Chapter Secretary and VP Communications Matt Reese for reaching out to our faculty contacts at SDSU and USD to kick-start plans for next spring’s Student Night.
There is much more in the pipeline including promoting the CMA, expanding our social media effectiveness for communication, and planning more opportunities for CPE and networking. We welcome any feedback or suggestions via email.
I’m excited by our progress so far, and for what’s still to come!
Hope to see you soon at one of our events.
